Learning to Knit

Knitting stores: Before there were knitting cafÃ?©’s, there were knitting stores who not only sell knitting supplies but will also offer instruction on how to knit, helping you threw patterns, measurements and stitches. To get instruction at a knitting store, try and go during off-peak hours when the sales people will have more time to give you the attention that you need. Buy wool or needles from that store, it might be more expensive but you’re also paying for free lessons. Some knitting stores have specially designated hours for beginners to come and knit together, ask the sales person if your store offers this service.

Knitting Cafe’s: Knitting cafÃ?©’s are becoming more and more popular, almost like Starbuck’s for the knitting inclined. CafÃ?©’s are open later then stores and are more inclined to give instructions than stores. Another perk of going to a cafÃ?© to learn is being surrounded by other knitters who are usually helpful in giving assistance to beginners. Instead of a knitting class where participants are on the same level, a cafÃ?© blends new and more advance knitters together in a social atmosphere which is conducive to trading knitting tips and of course making friends who knit.

Craigslist: To look for knitting instruction or clubs look online under clubs, events and strictly platonic.
