Product Review: Lime-Away

Lime-Away® household cleaner is effective in removing tough water stains that build up in sinks, bathrooms and even on outside appliances such as hoses and watering cans. I used it recently in cleaning my bathrooms and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Before you start to use Lime-Away be sure to put on a good pair of rubber gloves, as as the product is corrosive and can damage skin. To open the bottle, press the tab in and then hold it down while turning the nozzle. Make sure that the room or area you are working in is well ventilated, as it contains sulfamic acid and can cause irritation. Spray Lime-Away® onto the area you wish to clean and leave it for a moment. Then rinse it off with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. I was pleased that the product does not require much work to remove tough stains from surfaces. I had a tough limescale build up in one of my bathrooms, but Lime-Away® lifted the stain easily and restored the natural white of the bathtub better than other brands I have been experimenting with lately.

If you want to achieve the best results and stay safe while using Lime-Away® it is very important to follow some basic steps. First of all, make sure there are no children or animals nearby while you are cleaning and make sure that the product does not get into your eyes or that you accidentally breathe it in. If it does go into your eyes, remove any contact lenses you may be wearing and rinse your eyes for 15 minutes. Call the doctor right away too. If you inhale it, move outside and get some fresh air. Seek medical attention if you need it. The product is so powerful that it can cause damage if you are not careful.

According to the bottled instructions, Lime-Away® is not the right product for natural marble, stone, terrazzo, metallic or painted surfaces, coloured grout or counter tops. You must also keep Lime-Away® well away from wood, fabric and wallpaper. If it spills onto any of these surfaces, make sure that you wipe up the spills quickly in case a child or pet comes into contact with it. So if you are having a hard time trying to clean up any of these surfaces, it is best to look elsewhere for the right product. Lime-Away® is best used to get rid of limescale deposits in bathrooms, kitchen sinks, and other surfaces that come into regular contact with water. So while it is very good at cleaning these few concentrated parts of the home, it is not a product that can be used all over the home, which is the only drawback I came across when using Lime-Away®.
