Restaurant Review: Stallions in Lone Tree, Colorado

I recently visited Stallions Restaurant/bar/lounge on Monday, March 13th and had an overall pleasant experience. Walking in the door I noticed some interesting decor, layout and architecture. I also became a little turned around with the three different areas: the bar, the lounge and the dining room. There really wasn’t much staff around to get a good feel for them. I was a little weary while walking into Stallions with my husband and friend, but I soon overcame that feeling.

The hostess who seated us was a little slow, but very polite; she sat us near the kitchen in a booth. As we waited for our waitress I noticed just a handful of patrons dressed very casually and sitting quietly, but seemingly very happy. There wasn’t a whole lot of noise besides the top 40’s playing overhead which was very relaxing. Soon after our wonderful waitress Jozette greeted us and asked if we needed cocktails or any other drinks.

I ended up ordering a “key lime” martini; it was very good, a little bitter with a bit of vanilla ice cream to balance it out. We decided on two appetizers: lobster ceviche (excellent) and nachos (also very tasty). While waiting for appetizers we got some brick-oven warmed bread with fresh whipped butter. A perfect Caesar salad came before the entrees, so we were already getting full. The overall food presentation was nice, but not formal like the menu boasts, just the pricing was formal. Our dinner entrees came soon after, and they smelled wonderful. My husband ordered the ribs with blue cheesy mashed potatoes; the ribs had a mango barbecue sauce which was good. My friend had the nut encrusted chicken with scalloped potatoes; I personally don’t care for scalloped potatoes, but they were good from what I hear, along with the chicken, very juicy. I ordered the Buck head Angus (Colorado-grown) bone-in rib-eye, medium cooked with baby roasters (potatoes) and let me tell you, it was the juiciest, tastiest steak I have had in a long time, the baby roasters were seasoned to perfection too!

After such a delicious, filling meal we decided we better order dessert and at least give it one or two bites. We decided to try three desserts: bread pudding, five-layer chocolate cake and New York-style cheesecake with crushed pineapple. While waiting for the dessert we discussed the interesting dÃ?©cor. The outside seemed to be like any other restaurant, but the inside was very “old saw-mill” style with huge wood beams and tin roofing upon the ceiling. The booths were a little low compared to the tables, but not uncomfortable. Finally, the desserts came! First off, I should say that I am a huge bread pudding fan, and this was one of the best in town of which I have had the pleasure of tasting. The five-layer chocolate cake was too thick, but if you were in the mood for chocolate, then you were in trouble. Not being a fan of cheesecake along with pineapple I had to be talked into trying it since I was writing a review. I finally decided and low and behold it was good! Now I guess I can’t say that I don’t like something without trying it.

Our waitress was, like I mentioned above, wonderful, quick and helpful. She showed us around in the lounge after we ate and told us about happy hour times, happenings there during the weekends, which I guess gets pretty lively and crowded. We found out that the restaurant had only been open for about 7 or 8 months and that the owner was a D.J. from Las Vegas. Being a D.J. from Vegas gets him other good D.J.’s and bands to pack the house. Jozette, our waitress, was even asking us (sincerely) to come back soon and come during the weekend to party and have a good time.

After receiving our bill of $120+, I definitely understood why maybe they call it formal and why one wouldn’t necessarily go too often. If given another chance though, I would definitely go to Stallions again (if I was in the area). I am more of a city girl who likes to stay in the city, but I can see how this place entices people of the suburbs to stay in town and have a good time. In the fast paced hustle and bustle of the city, it is a great place to escape to and I had a great experience with stallions for sure.
