Rocky Fork, Ohio: A Fisherman’s Dream

Summer activities are beginning to fill our minds. For many people, that includes fishing, camping and just enjoying nature. If you are one of millions of people looking for a nature’s paradise, look no further than Rocky Fork State Park. Rocky Fork is located in the southern hills of Hillsboro Ohio.

This state park has over 1,383 acres of land. It also has a whopping 2,080 acres of water and 800 feet of this water is dedicated to swimming areas.

This park is not only a fisherman’s dream place. It also has: hunting trails, mountain bike trails, picnicking areas, onsite restaurant, swimming beaches, boat rentals, seasonal dock rentals, full service camp-sites and even caves.

Fishermen will be delighted to find the waters filled with bass, bluegill, crappie, muskellunge and even walleye fish. The pier located on the south east side is even wheel chair accessible.

The name Rocky Fork comes from the stream that flows through the park. This stream winds over limestone and has eroded many natural gorges and caves. The sight is extremely beautiful and breathtaking. This park also contains the flower sullivantia, which is a small white flower that blooms in mid-summer. This is rare because this flower is not known for blooming in Ohio.

For the traveling fisherman, he/she can stay at the full service campground. There are 230 campsites suitable for trailers and tents. The campgrounds are equipped with showers, flush toilets, laundry facilities, and a camp store. One hundred and thirty of these sites are equipped with full service electric hookups.

The park has three marinas. All three of these marinas are equipped with launch ramps for boats, docking space and parking. One of the marinas provides boat fuel.

Boats of all sizes and horse power motors can be found at Rocky Fork Lake. The park has 16 boat launching ramps and even a camp site just for boaters. These camp sites include a boat launch ramp and boat tie up. For the seasonal fisherman, he/she can even rent out a dock to keep his boat here at Rocky Fork. Of course, all boats need to be registered and licensed through the state of Ohio.

Pets, of course, are permitted at the park and at the campgrounds. But be reminded dogs should be leashed and watched closely.

If one tires of fishing, there are other fun activities waiting for you. At both the campground sites and the day use areas, volleyball and playground equipment can be found to enjoy. The campground also has a miniature golf course, tetherball, basketball court, and a horse shoe pit. The camp office also offers loans of games and other sporting equipment to registered campers.

Fisherman and hunters must have their license through the state of Ohio and they must have them on them, should a ranger ask to see it.

As you can see, Rocky Fork offers many things to any fisherman or outdoor enthusiast. It is located at 9800 North Shore Drive, Hillsboro, Ohio. For further information you can call 937-393-4284. If you want to schedule a campsite for rental or if you have more questi
