#2 Armstrong Mansion Historic Bed and Breakfast

Another great bed and breakfast choice is the Armstrong Mansion Historic Bed and Breakfast, located at 667 East 100 South. The mayor of Salt Lake City, Francis Armstrong, built the home in 1893. It was built as a wedding day promise to his wife, Isabel, and the dining room still bears her name. At the time it was built, it was one of only three houses in the Salt Lake valley that had indoor plumbing and running water. The Armstrongs held many parties there during their lives. When it passed out of the family, it fell into disrepair, but was restored in the 1990s to a very successful bead and breakfast. The house is very attractive, and brings to mind the Victorian times in which it was built. The beautiful red brick, graceful front porch and intriguing turret make you curious to see what it is like on the inside.

The inn offers thirteen fantastically appointed rooms that are furnished with period antiques. The rooms are named after the months, such as the December Dreams rooms, which has the proverbial Victorian brass bed and is complete with a small lighted Christmas tree. Other rooms include the June Bride, which is housed in the original master bedroom of the mansion, and is the perfect place for newlyweds or for celebrating an anniversary. The October Hollow room has a more rustic appearance, with exposed brick and a cozy feel. The February Interlude is a great place for letting your Valentine know how much you care. Besides being a beautiful room, it has a private, ornate spiral staircase that leads to the turret that you were wondering about outside. There are also two suites and a loft located in Annie’s Cottage, which belonged to the Armstrong’s daughter and is just across the way.
