The Manliest Cities in America

All you girly type men can stop reading this right now as it doesn’t pertain to you at all. This is a story about real men. The type of men, who watch sports, do home improvements, have manly jobs and eat things like steak and especially salty snacks. I’m talking about manly men and this is a story about where most of them reside: the manliest cities in all of America.

Who is better to rate manliness than Mars Chocolate of North America? They’ve released their fourth annual COMBOS® America’s Manliest Cities study. I’m sure the results will cause many debates.

It seems the number one manliest city is all of America is Oklahoma City, followed by Columbia, SC, Memphis, TN, Nashville, TN, Birmingham, AL, Houston, TX, St. Louis, MO, Toledo, OH, Cleveland, OH and rounding out the top ten is Charlotte, NC.

The study was conducted by Bert Sperling who is known for coming up with Best Places to Live lists.

The data for the study consisted of counting the number of home improvement stores, steak houses and manly occupations per capita. What they considered a manly job is anyone’s guess. A city was knocked down for having too many girly things like nail salons and those fancy type shopping boutiques.

The men in Tennessee did their state proud by finishing first and second in the “manly lifestyle” category. This was based on a listing of the number of manly vehicles such as pickup trucks and motorcycles registered in the city as well as watching sports on TV, fishing and doing home improvements.

To people who live outside the state of California, the low rankings of their cities for manliness is no surprise. Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento and Oakland remained at the bottom. I suppose they had too many nail salons and not enough pickup trucks. I imagine they also don’t appreciate the manliness obtained from eating salty snacks.

It appears the men of Oklahoma City not only have manly jobs, and shun fancy type shopping boutiques, but they are also the champions of eating salty snacks. For the second year in a row this city had the highest purchase rate of salty snacks in America.
