The Secret to Staying Awake Without Drinking Coffee

Many people have become very dependant on drinking coffee in order to stay awake. But there are actually several steps that you can take in order to stay awake without having to drink large amounts of coffee through out the day. Following are a few helpful suggestions:

1. Make sure that you get at least eight hours of sleep each night. This will probably require you to go to bed at a certain time. If it takes you a while to fall asleep than it may be a good idea to get into bed at least a half hour earlier than your designated sleep time.

2. Avoid drinking caffeine after five in the evening the night before. If you drink a large amount of caffeine in the evening than you will definitely have a difficult time falling asleep and will not get the needed amount of sleep that you need.

3. Eat a healthy breakfast. If you actually take the time to eat a healthy breakfast than you will definitely have the energy that you need to make it through the day. Many people unfortunately choose to skip breakfast and just figure they will make up for it by eating a large lunch. Remember also that you burn the largest amount of calories in the morning so there is nothing wrong with eating a full breakfast.

4. Try exercising during the day. A lot of people choose to use their lunch hour as a great time to eat light and go for a walk. This will also help to wake you up, if you begin to feel drowsy throughout the course of the day. Many people, who work at a desk, say that they usually start feeling a little sleepy a little more toward the afternoon.

5. Chew gum instead. One thing that many have tried is chewing gum. You may think that it sounds a little silly and are probably saying that this is something that will never work, but you should just give it a try. Don’t try any type of bubble gum, since this will definitely not help you.

The main key to staying awake without drinking is making sure that you follow some sort of healthy diet plan. It may not be a bad idea to take the time and speak with your doctor. In some rare cases your drowsiness during the day could be a sign of an even greater health problem. You will be surprised at how many people drink lots of coffee through out the course of the day because they feel tired not even knowing that they have another serious condition that is causing the problem. Even if you have to gradually break the habit that is ok also, it will definitely put you on the track to better health.
