Tips for Planning Your Honeymoon

Planning a honeymoon can be almost as stressful as planning your wedding. Who should plan the honeymoon? The groom? The bride? A good answer is both of you! You want to make sure you agree on your destination and make plans together so you can schedule the days you need off at work, buy essential items and know what to plan on. Now, where do you start?

Where will you go?

It is a good idea to have a destination in mind. Whether it is somewhere exotic or a simple intimate setting in the mountains, always agree on the destination first. Now you can explore your options. Surf the Internet, call a travel agency and pick up brochures about the city, country or resort you want to visit. If you are on a budget keep prices in mind while searching for the right location. It is suggested you start planning six months in advance to ensure you have all of your bases covered.

Here is a suggestion/checklist for planning your honeymoon:

Six months before your honeymoon
Discuss your destination (where you want to go). Get recommendations from friends and family. Shop for a travel agent who will guide you through the process and find you the best price and travel accommodations. Apply for a passport if necessary.

Five to four months before the honeymoon
Pick your travel agent and finalize your destination. Begin the search for hotels, airlines and car rental agencies that will suit your needs and purpose.

Three months before the honeymoon
Make sure all reservations are made and send deposits. Keep all records of reservations and conformation numbers and travel agent’s phone number. Ask what travel documents you will need and check on passports if necessary.

Two month before honeymoon
Purchase, borrow or register for items such as luggage, travel iron and blow dryer. Start putting a list together of what you need and what you want to pack.

One month before honeymoon
Have all of the proper equipment ready for your trip: Luggage, camera, film, sunglasses, extra batteries and buy trip insurance. Make sure major credit cards are up-to-date and make a copy of your travel itinerary.

One week before the honeymoon
Get travelers checks. Pack the medication and prescriptions that you will need. Prepare your carry-on bag with all essentials and a change of clothes incase of a luggage mishap. Reconfirm the reservations and make sure you are carrying important numbers and credit cards so they won’t get lost in your luggage.

The BIG day-Day of Departure

Verify everything (airline, hotel reservations) one more time. Check to see if you have your money and necessary documents. Arrive at the airport early and ENJOY!

Prepare yourself for the celebration of your love! Don’t stress about your trip, if you make preparations in advance then there will be nothing to worry about and you can enjoy your trip.

Follow the checklist outlined above and make the proper arrangements and reservations ahead of time to make your honeymoon a complete success. This will help to start your marriage on the right foot. Love is grand, so have fun on your honeymoon vacation.
