Ways to Recycle Your Halloween Decorations

Halloween is just around the corner and if you appreciate this holiday you most likely have decorations stored away along with old costumes. So what do you do with them other than keeping them stored away for years? You recycle them. Here are five ways to recycle your terrific Halloween items.

Sort the Halloween Decorations out-

Taking the time to sort out your old Halloween decorations is extremely important. This will help you decide what you can give away, what needs to hit the trash, what can be recycled and what you want to reuse. Separate your Halloween decorations into these piles to get a better sense of what you want to do.

Deal with the Trash First-

Double check your trash pile. Make sure the Halloween decorations in this pile are actually trash that cannot be recycled. Plastics, paper and glass can all be recycled so move any of these into the recyclable pile. Also as someone who does not believe in waste you may want to see if anyone in your area can fix replace or use these broken items. You might be surprised to find out the guy down the street knows how to fix light decorations because he does it as a hobby on the weekends. Place a flyer in your community center to draw in people. Get rid of the trash in the proper areas assigned to your area.

The Recyclable Pile and Donation-

After you have gone through the Halloween decorations that are trash and come up with the ones that can be recycled now is the time to have fun. You will need to decide what you want to do with the recyclable items. Your local area will have a designated area for recyclables. Place the items you will not be using in the proper bins. These items should be ones that need be recycled but are also broken and cannot be fixed. Recycle the working items that you do not want to use again by donating them to your local salvation army. Many needy families still want to decorate their home for Halloween. Old costumes are great for donating. Even if they have small problems someone may come along who can fix it in a jiff.

Recyclables that have to go-

Take the items that you do not want to donate but that you want to get rid of and have a Haunted Halloween Decoration Blowout Sale as a themed yard sale a few weeks before the big event. Place price tags on everything you want to get rid of, make up flyers for your community and place a small ad in the local paper. This is a great way to get rid of the old stuff and make a few bucks at the same time. Many people are still yard sale fans. You can have a bunch of your friends who have old decorations that they want to get rid of join in also. This way there is more selection for customers buying Halloween decorations and the profits will be better. Split the profits between each person who brought items or let each person have their own table.

Reuse Halloween Decorations-

Set them up in the yard, on the porch and around the house. Halloween decorations can be a lot of fun. Especially old costumes that you just do not want to part with. Stuffing the costumes with leaves and adding a pumpkin head can add to your Halloween yard illusions. For a really creepy effect stuff the costumes with leaves then hang them from the trees that line your driveway or walkway. Many trick or treat goers will love this haunting appearance of the trick or treat gone bad.

When it is time to take down the decorations use the same processes mentioned. Throw an after Halloween mark down yard sale or donate the stuff that you are not going to use next year. For the stuff you want to store place them all in a medium to large box that can be easily marked and placed in your garage, attic or storage closet. Always have a happy, safe and fun Halloween!
