Difference Between Shellac and Gel

The usual shortcomings that arise with a normal nail polish pedicure is that it usually does not last longer than a couple of days. Nail products like Gel manicures and Shellac provide a solution to this problem. This in effect, provides chip free and scratch free nails for around two weeks and even longer in some cases.

However, understand that Shellac and Gel have a number of differences between each other. More colour options are available for gel manicures in comparison with Shellac. On the other hand, Bio Sculpture Gel offers more than 170 colours for their Gel manicure items whereas Shellac makers CND has around 30 colours.

In order to remove a manicure, you have to scratch the top layer with the help of a nail file. After removing it, soak the nails in a cup of acetone. Then you can remove the Gel or flakes using a cuticle pusher. In addition, removing Shellac can be a simpler task than removing a Gel manicure as you do not always have to soak, file and drill.

On the contrary, every nail is just protected with Shellac remover wraps. Remember that these are cotton pads soaked in acetone and applied just on the nail. This way you protect your fingers and the skin from being damaged or exposed to acetone unintentionally.

Shellac application mixes the process of normal polishing and Gel manicures. It takes around half an hour and can be brushed on just like a normal polish.

    Gel manicure uses a coat of gel put on the nails, with normal polish on top. The appliance of UV light to treat the Gel lets the manicure to last a while longer. Cuticles are pushed and nails are buffed and filed in a Gel manicure. A coating of nail Gel is used and made hard under a UV lamp. After the Gel hardens, the nails are filed, shaped and the colour is coated again. The coloured nails are then held under a UV light.
