Difference Between Teaching and Preaching

People usually consider teaching and preaching as the same with a view that the objective of these terms is the same. But they are mistaken in the understanding of these terms because teaching and preaching cannot be used interchangeably considering their different methodology and objectives. If you pay a close attention to the literal meanings of teaching and preaching, you will easily identify the many differences that distinguish both of these terms from each other. Teaching is basically used in the sense of imparting knowledge of a particular subject in a systematic way which is also called training. On the contrary, preaching is a word that is used in the sense of discourse and there is no systematic technique involved in the process of preaching.

The person who performs the task of teaching is generally known as teacher which people who are involved in the activity of preaching are known as the preachers. Teaching requires a certain level of qualification from the teachers but no formal qualification is required for preaching persons. Teaching comprised on countless fields in which teachers provide information, knowledge and training to students. On the contrary, a preacher delivers the knowledge that is associated with religion and morality. Teaching is performed in schools, colleges and universities while preaching is performed in Mosques, Churches, temples and different religious centres. The target audience of teaching are students while the target audience of preaching are the general people. Teaching is a paid job while preaching is not a paid job and people voluntarily perform this task.

Preaching is an unpaid job that is being performed in Mosques, Churches, temples and many other religious places. There is no qualification required to become a preacher and he only requires in-depth knowledge about religion for making people aware of religious information and morality. Preaching focuses on general public because all males and females, students and practical persons are all require religious knowledge in order to become better people.
