How to Care for the Hearing Impaired

If you someone in your family is hearing impaired then you understand how difficult it can be to care for them. It involves a lot of patience as someone that is hearing impaired is usually deaf or is suffering from some sort of hearing impediment which makes it very difficult to hear what you are trying to say. It is important if you are caring for someone that is hearing impaired that you learn as much as you can about this situation and what the best methods you can use to communicate.

    Come up with a simple system that you can use to communicate by writing on paper with a pencil. You can use shapes or abbreviations instead of writing all the words or sentences out to make things easier for both of you.     Use a good high quality hearing aid to help you communicate with someone that is hearing impaired. There are many new hearing aids that you can buy that can help a person who is hearing impaired to communicate easier as it allows them to hear better. Be sure to talk to your doctor about the different hearing aids available, their usage and maintenance.

    If possible you can take a simple course to learn sign language. The benefit of this is that it is a universal method to communicate with someone who is hearing impaired. It might take some time to learn but it will make communicating and caring for someone that is hearing impaired much easier for you. You can also buy books or go online and watch tutorials on how to do simple sign language to help you.

    Talk face to face:

    Be sure that when you are trying to communicate with someone that is hearing impaired that you talk face to face so that they can see your facial expressions and lips moving. Someone that is hearing impaired needs to see your face in order to try to understand what you are trying to say.

    Always be extremely patient when you are trying to care for someone that is hearing impaired. You must understand what they might be feeling or going through as they cannot hear anything. Take your time and build up a proper method of communicating so that you can care for that person easier.
