A chef’s uniform is not only a fashion statement but it is design to protect the chef from any disaster or spills. Every part and component of the chef’s dress plays an important role in guarding him from any mishaps in the kitchen. However, they are designed for inside the kitchen only. You need to avoid going out wearing the uniform as you might risk bringing in bacteria.

    A chef’s jacket

    Jacket of the chef uniform is double-breasted for more protection. It forms a two-layer barrier which protects the chef from grease splatters, steam burns, spills and splashes. In case the chef dress becomes dirty, you can easily unbeaten and switch the side. Its sleeves are long so it protects you from burns etc. You should not roll up the sleeves.

    Pants

    You might think of wearing shorts which would comfort you in a place with high temperature. However, pants are more reliable as they keep you safe. They protect you from getting burns and from hot spills etc. A chef’s pants have odd patterns and are bulky-shaped. The bulky shape prevents spills and splatters from contacting your skin. Remember that you need to wear these pants without scuffs in order to prevent any debris from gathering. Elastic waistband should be more comfortable. By this it can be removed easily in case of hot spills, hot grease or fire.

    The chef’s hat

    A chef hat also known as ‘toque blanche’ and round with many folds. Most French restaurants and cooking schools wants their chefs to put on toques. However, in many restaurants a plain hat can also be worn. Hat is worn to keep hair away from cooking. It also absorbs sweat from the brow. In addition to this, neckerchief is also worn to absorb sweat.

    Apron is worn in kitchen to further protect from debris, hot spills and splashes. Remember that a clean apron means that you have worked cleanly and which reflects professionalism. Along with this, a side towel is provided by the kitchen in order to pick hot and harmful utensils.
