How to Make Bubble Up Pizza Casserole

Ingredients:
Italian sausage: 1 pound
Chopped yellow onion: 1(large)
Chopped green bell pepper: 1 (large)
Minced cloves garlic: 3
Fresh tomatoes (chopped): 1 cup
Dried oregano (crushed): 1 teaspoon
Dried thyme: 1 teaspoon
Sea salt: 2 pinches
Fresh black pepper: 2 pinches
Tomato sauce: 1 ½ cups
Milk: 1 cup
Large eggs: 2
Vegetable oil: 1 tablespoon
All-purpose flour: 1 cup
Salt: ½ teaspoon
Unsalted butter: 1 tablespoon
Mozzarella cheese (shredded): 2 cups
Parmesan cheese for serving (grated): 1 handful
Pepperoni slices: 12 (medium-sized)

Instructions

    Preheat your oven to 425 °F or 218.33°C.

    Place 1 pound of Italian sausage in a large stainless skillet and heat it over medium heat.

    Once the skillet is warm, start stir frying for few minutes until the sausage is nicely browned and starts releasing fats in the form of oil.

    Use a spoon to drain off the fats and shift the fried sausage into a bowl. Cover it and set aside.

    Set the skillet back on the stove and add in chopped yellow onion and green bell pepper. Stir cook it for five to six minutes.

    Now add in minced garlic cloves and cook it until the mixture is fragrant.

    Top the sausage mixture with the diced tomatoes, dried oregano and thyme.

    Season the mixture with some sea salt and fresh black pepper. Carry on stir cooking for 4 to 5 minutes.

    Now add the fried sausage back to the skillet and merge it well with the vegetable mixture in it.

    Drizzle the tomato sauce over the sausage mixture and bring it to boil. Leave it to cook it for the next 10 to 12 minutes or until all the ingredients are tender.

    In the meantime, crack two large eggs into a bowl and top with one cup of milk. Pour in vegetable oil and whisk the mixture until on medium speed for about one minute or until lathered up.

    Add in all-purpose flour and sprinkle with some salt. Beat this mixture for 3 more minutes and set aside.

    Use some unsalted butter to grease your baking pan and add the sausage mixture to it.

    Use the back side of your wooden ladle to spread out the sausage mixture in an even layer and sprinkle it with one cup of grated mozzarella cheese.

    Drizzle the batter carefully over the top of the sausage mixture to reach about a half inch from the top of the baking pan.

    Scatter the remaining grated mozzarella cheese over the top of the batter and dot with pepperoni slices.

    Place the baking pan in the preheat oven and bake it for 25 to 30 minutes or until puffed and nicely golden in colour.

    Remove the baking pan from oven and set aside for 5 minutes.
