Flavoured rock candies are one of the most favourite candies of kids. You can easily make rock candies at your home. All you need is a little time, few ingredients and equipment.
Ingredients
  • Water: 2 cups
  • Sugar: 3 cups
  • Corn syrup: ¼ cup
  • Food coloring (as per your choice)
  • Flavoring (as per your choice)
  • Stick to hang the string
  • String (cotton or twine works best)
Instructions
  1. First of all, you have to take a sauce pan. Pour some water in it and keep it at a high heat flame on the stove. Let the water boil.
  2. Meanwhile, take a string and a stick. Tie the string from one end around the centre of the stick. It is to be noted that the string has to be long enough to reach to the top of the stick.
  3. Then, you have to wet the string with the help of water. After wetting the string, you have to roll it in sugar. To keep the string straight, you have to attach a paper clip on its end.
  4. The clip will add weight to the string and then you can easily drop it into the glass jar. But, make sure that the clip doesn’t touch the bottom of the glass jar.
  5. On the other hand, when the water starts boiling, remove the pan from the stove and place it aside so that the water settles down.
  6. Add sugar and corn syrup into the water and keep stirring. You have to add sugar to the water in the pan until the time comes when it becomes impossible to dissolve and start gathering at the bottom.
  7. Now, you have to add and stir the flavour into the water. Besides, if you want to add any kind of colour, you can add it now. But, stir well after adding it.
  8. Pour the solution containing sugar, corn syrup, flavour and colour into the glass jar. Don’t fill it to the top and leave around one-inch space. Place the stick which has string attached with it in the jar and don’t allow the clip to touch the bottom.
  9. Keep the jar in the refrigerator for a while and take the string out when you see the crystals around it.
