How to Make Heart Shaped Boxes

A heart-shaped box can be made out of a cardboard in order to hold a present for your special someone. You can use recycled boxes in order to create this box and customize it just the way you want it. No matter which colour you want the heart to be, it all depends upon you. Once you have decided the colour for the box, add a nice to touch to it by buying a ribbon which goes with that colour. Now get a small card, attach it to the box. Finally fill the box with chocolates or any present which you would want it to hold. It will most definitely be a pleasant surprise for your loved ones once they know how hard you have worked for them.

-Hot-glue gun with hot-glue sticks
-Printed paper
-Acrylic paint in assorted colors
-Paint brush
-1-inch-wide ribbon
-Photograph (optional)

Instructions

  • 1

Simply fold a paper in half, and draw half a heart on one side, and the other half on the other side. Make sure that the paper is at least 5” x 3” in size. The heart must be symmetrical. Cut the heart shape out around the borders.

  • 2

Use sharp scissors to cut 11”x14” of cardboard.

  • 3

Use the heart shape which you drew first and place it in such a way that you can cut out two similar hearts from the cardboard.

  • 4

Simply use paint to colour the hearts which you have cut out. Make sure you only colour one side and leave the other one, or your efforts will simply go to waste as the other side will not be visible. Acrylic paint is considered to be good in this regard.

  • 5

Cut a 1-inch wide strip of cardboard in such a way that it can make up for the border of the heart. Now once you have cut it, simply place it around the cardboard and slide it inwards at least ¼” so you can form a smaller shaped heart. In case there is excess of these strips left, simply throw them away.

  • 6

Use glue to stick them around the heart and take a ribbon to cover the outer surface of these strips.

  • 7

Now use the paper made heart to cover the inner side of the box.

  • 8

Fold the strips which are around the circumference of the heart you have made, and use hot glue on the edges so the strip remains attached. Now paint the heart again.

  • 9

Both the strip-attached hearts should be joined together after placing them over each other. Use hot glue to form a complete heart-shaped box.
