Credit cards are a part of our everyday life and just about everyone uses them as they are a lot more convenient that carrying cash around with you. There are some problems that are related with them as well. Many times people are defrauded by others who acquire their credit card information.

Credit card fraud can be avoided with some vigilance. There are some basic things to keep in mind and once you can do them, there is little or no chance that you can be defrauded as you will be well protected.

    Don’t Use it on Unsecured Websites

    We make many purchases on the internet. Make sure that every time you make a purchase, there is a secured service that is involved. This is imperative as if you do not have the latest security options, you will probably be risking losing your credit card information to others who can exploit it. Services such as PayPal provides excellent security and the credit card information does not even go to the merchant as it is securely held by PayPal.

    Use Cash at Shoddy Places

    It is not a bad idea to use cash instead of credit card in places that you feel are shoddy. This will save you from looking at all those receipts for a few dollars as well and you will avoid giving out your credit card too often.

    Never Let the Card Get Out of Sight

    There are places such as restaurants that take your credit card with the bill and swipe it for you. Make sure that you keep your eyes on the process of card swiping and bill generation, especially at smaller restaurants. Make sure that at no point in time the person carrying your card goes to a place other than the counter to get the card charged. There are small devices on which the card’s information can be stored by swiping the strip so be aware.

    Have Insurance

    If you use the card often and have no other option, make sure that you get insurance coverage for your card. There is an automatic cover that is provided when you get the card but this additional insurance which costs less than one percent of the total transactions you do is pretty useful and has additional features that exonerate you from any liability in case of fraud.
