How to Stop Procrastination

Procrastination can create a lot of problems in your life. For instance, you can fail in different tests or be unable to keep your relationships intact. If you are addicted to procrastination you will have to take some drastic measures to get back to a normal routine so that you can manage all your activities well.

It is often very difficult to stop procrastination as your mind and body have become familiar with a particular routine. However, you can change your routine, so as to get rid of procrastination, by employing a few methods.

Instructions

  • 1

    Examine your routine

First of all, you have to examine your daily routine. Note down all the activities which you have to perform in a day. Furthermore, you must note down the time which is required for each activity and the time you take to actually complete it. In this way, you will be able to determine how much time you waste on procrastination.

  • 2

    Examine the effect of procrastination

After assessing your daily routine, you have to examine the effects of procrastination on your activities; for instance, you couldn’t prepare for an exam because you postponed your studying for a party or in the favour of going to sleep.

  • 3

    Set reasonable targets

You will have to set targets in your life in order to get rid of all the activities which lead you to procrastinate. It is to be noted that you must set targets which you can achieve. Setting ideal, hard-to-attain targets may lead to underachievement. So, set reasonable goals which you can achieve with a little hard work.

  • 4

    Make a To-Do list

It will be better if you make a list of all the activities which you have to perform. Place the list on a wall so that you can easily see it. It will help you in completing your activities on time.

  • 5

    Be consistent and punctual

Do everything on time, with regularity. You cannot achieve success until and unless you are consistent, and maintain a good routine.

  • 6

    Don’t over think

One of the main causes of procrastination is over thinking. Therefore, develop the habit of acting more instead of thinking a lot.

  • 7

    Be focused

Don’t take your eye or mind off of your work, and stay focused so you can complete everything on time.

  • 8

    Have a good night's sleep

In order to give full attention to all the activities which you have to perform during the day, you must get a good night's sleep.
