How to Make a Non-Toxic Disinfectant

Counter tops can be home to harmful bacteria. Although killing these harmful germs is highly important, almost all disinfectants contain poisonous ingredients. These toxic ingredients can pose serious health risks, especially if they are sprayed upon surfaces used in the preparation of food.

A possible solution to this problem is to make disinfectants at home without using any toxic ingredients. Fortunately, the task is very simple and should take no more than a few minutes.

Things Required:

– 2 plastic spray bottles
– Vinegar
– Hydrogen peroxide
– Paper towel

Instructions

  • 1

Rinse both plastic bottles from the inside, by placing them under running water one after the other. This will ensure complete removal of dust particles or other impurities which can contaminate the cleaning liquids that you are going to store in the plastic bottles.

  • 2

Carefully pour hydrogen peroxide into the first plastic bottle. Make sure that the liquid does not spill out of the bottle. Furthermore, fill only 90 percent of the bottle and leave the other 10 percent empty.

  • 3

Fill the second plastic bottle with vinegar, in the same way you filled the first bottle.

  • 4

Spray a thin coat of hydrogen peroxide onto the surface which you want to disinfect. Before you move on to the next step, wait for a few seconds so that the hydrogen peroxide has enough time to act properly.

  • 5

Wipe the sprayed surface with a clean paper towel and then apply a thin coat of vinegar onto the same surface. As before, wait for a few seconds, then wipe the surface clean with a new paper towel.
