How to Make Healthy One Skillet Meal

One skillet meals are dishes which can be cooked easily and quickly. They require less clean up and can be made with fewer ingredients and equipments. In this busy life, you usually do not have time to buy several ingredients and make things for someone or yourself with them. Skillet meals come handy at this point as they are made in few minutes and require only few utensils. You can alter the ingredients and according to your desire and make something new as well. Common ingredients of skillet meals include pasta, rice, a meat product, a sauce and vegetables.

    Seared Strip Steaks with Horseradish-Root Vegetable Slaw

    Prep time: 40 min
    Yields: 4 persons, 3-4 ounces steak and generous ½ cup slaw each
    Utensils: Skillet, medium bowl

    Ingredients:
    Shredded peeled root vegetables: 3 cups, such as beets, carrots, celeriac and/or turnips
    Extra-virgin olive oil: 2 teaspoons
    Chopped fresh dill: 3 tablespoons
    Kosher salt: 3/4 teaspoon
    Strip steak (1-1 1/4 inch thick) trimmed and cut into 4 portions: 1 pound
    Freshly ground pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
    Water: 1/4 cup
    White balsamic (see Note) or regular balsamic vinegar: 1/4 cup
    Prepared horseradish: 2-4 tablespoons
    Reduced-fat sour cream: 1 tablespoon

    Preparation:
    First you need to place root vegetables, 2 teaspoons oil, 2 tablespoons dill and ½ teaspoon salt in a medium bowl. Place the bowl near you for later purposes. Next you need to heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet with medium high heat. Add steak which is sprinkled with ¼ teaspoon salt and pepper and cook it. After cooking steak for three to five minutes, put the steak on a plate and pour water, vinegar and horseradish on the pan. Pour the accumulated juice of steak on the pan sauce. Next place the sauce over the vegetable slaw. Add sour cream and 1 tablespoon of dill into the sauce which is left in the pan.

    In order to serve, you need to cut the slaw and steak in four pieces and pour the sauce over them.

    Skillet Lasagna

    Prep time: 5 min
    Cook time: 25 min
    Total time: 30 min
    Yields: 2 persons
    Utensils: Skillet

    Ingredients:
    Meat loaf mix: 1 pound
    Curly lasagna noodles, broken into 2-in. pieces: 2
    Marinara sauce: 1 jar
    Water: 2 cup
    Shredded Italian cheese blend: 1 cup
    Part-skim ricotta: ¾ cup

    Preparation:
    You need to place the meat loaf in a large skillet and then cook it for almost five minutes. Remember to use medium heat and stir it until the meat is brown. Take out fat and then add noodles, sauce and water. Boil it after this for almost 18 to 20 minutes. Next you need to remove the ingredients from heat and add ½ cup shredded cheese. Later pour ricotta on the top of this and remaining shredded cheese. In the end, cover it for almost three minutes until the cheese melts.
