A Few Things to Buy Before Purchasing a Cement Floor Grinder

Concrete floor grinders can be very useful tools when completing indoor and outdoor flooring projects. Having the grinder that meets your needs is essential when attempting to complete a job. I have provided some suggestions of things to consider before purchasing your first, or next, concrete floor grinder.

Grinders are ideal for situations in which you would like to remove between 1/16″ and 1/8″ of material to smooth, clean, and level cement surfaces to prepare them for overlays, repairs, or removal. This may include, but is not limited to the removal of paint, adhesives, mastic, and more. Different surface removals may require a variety of grinding discs for optimal performance; to accommodate, disc hardness can vary from brush-like materials to diamond segmented materials. For less abrasive removal, a softer disc is sufficient.

The majority of concrete floor grinders are propane or gas-powered which allows great versatility. Although there a some models that are electric-powered, these often do not offer the necessary power and mobility needed for larger projects. Grinder motor powers range from 2 horsepower to around 15 horsepower. Higher horsepower motors are meant for large outdoor jobs that require aggressive resurfacing. Grinders with smaller motors are great for residential use to create a textured floor covering on concrete or stone. Concrete floor grinders are available in single and multiple-head models to cover a working width of between 6″ and 28″. Dual-head floor grinders help to reduce the time needed to complete larger jobs and are a necessity for larger outdoor projects.

Because there are a wide range of concrete floor grinders available for purchase, it is important to consider all of the specifications to ensure the one you choose is right for you. Other important things to consider are the size and weight of the grinder; typical grinders can range from 100 and 300 lbs. If transporting your grinder is important, these items will be even more important. Once you have determined the specifications that meet your needs, use them to narrow your product search and then begin shopping for price! If you are considering the purchase of another type of scarifying tool, keep in mind that concrete grinders create smoother surfaces than any other scarifying tools.
