Building Homes that Make a Difference

Recently world headline news captured a young Kenyan boy of age 18 who decided to build his house on a tree. The building was so unique because it was not built on any scientific and architectural knowledge but it just came from a curiosity of possibility and the desire to have a unique house. The strength of the house was so amazing because it was able to support over 30 people who climbed on the tree to witness the amazing house.

The sole reason why the young man came up with the idea of having a house on top of a tree was that he could leave space for other people with whom he shares land to erect their own houses on the ground. Looking at it closely, the risk taken by this young man is massive but somehow he did not have any better option.

The limited land and space is what has made many people opt of erecting story building. These buildings come in handy when a country like China that has great population considers using the land for other economic activities. It is encouraging when an investor thinks of building a story house instead of many apartments being erected on the ground that use up space for nothing. But what is not put into consideration, more so like the young man, is the safety of those who will inhabit the houses.

When I am talking about safety, it is not the strength of the house that I lay emphasis on. The importance of the strength cannot be over emphasized given that in Kenya a lot of story buildings (over 10) have come down crumbling just within one year, killing over 20 people. The health factor that I want to talk about is the consequences that results from staying in a house for a long period of time.

Though not well known to ordinary men and women alike, and the researchers too have not laid emphasis in this field, recently it has been found that some health risks like cancer, inflammations of the respiratory system and skin related complications can result from living in the ordinary houses.

The reasons as why the unhealthy houses and similar buildings can result into health threatening consequences are due to poor ventilations, choice of poor materials for heat transmission, gaseous exchange between the building and the environment, and the chemical composition of the building materials.

When the building materials are considered, it is worth to note that some of the woods that are used to erect houses are in themselves poisonous. When such woods with time release their poisonous substances, then it is the intake of such poisons that will at last impact on the health of the individual.

Owning the increased health concerns from every quarter, having buildings that occupy less space and at the same time improve the health status of its inhabitants is the way forward for investment in the building industry. People who are planning to erect houses should ideally consider the limited land and at the same ensure that their customers get the optimum satisfaction both in financial consideration and long life wishes.
