French Lessons in Seattle

The Seattle Language Academy offers instruction from languages such as Japanese to ancient Greek. Their French department offers something for every level, from beginning to advanced. As the name implies, the courses are college style in approach: each student is enrolled in a 3 month language course, and can expect drills, homework, and textbooks. The classroom atmosphere is not dull and dry, however: many attributes of French have to be learned trough verbal interaction. The instructors are fluent French speakers with teaching experience, and will help guide students towards proper pronunciations, conjugations, and accent. Tuition now starts at about $365/quarter, and morning and evening classes are available.

French courses taken through this program will emphasize standard French, and modern spoken French, so that students will have the capacity to communicate naturally with other French speakers. Classes run from basic to advanced, and a student that participates in the progressive levels of the program can expect to learn vocabulary and grammar, verb conjugations, tenses, and gender, and move into conversation. Advanced classes will concentrate of sophisticated structuring of the French language. Students will do a great deal of speaking in class, as well as listening, reading, and writing. Students will use materials such as textbooks, audio and visual video, and study guides, which will help them practice and retain the information. Students that are concurrently enrolled in colleges can possibly use these courses as college language credit, if accepted by their university.

Students will find that instructors place a great deal of emphasis on honing conversational skills, including grammar and vocabulary, pronunciation, and accent. Students will learn proper sentence structuring and practical skills, as well as written form of the language. There are classes available for every need, whether you are being introduce to the language for the first time, would like to know it for travel purposes, or are an advanced speaker who would like to fine tune your skills.
