Home Improvement Products: Lysol Cling Gel Toilet Bowl Cleaner

I have four boys in my daycare, ranging in ages from 5-11. I don’t want to pick on the male gender, but most of them in my care don’t have the best bathroom habits, and my toilet needs to be cleaned on an almost daily basis. I go through a lot of toilet bowl cleaners!

My latest find is Lysol Cling Gel with a Country Scent. This product comes in a plastic 24 ounce (709 mL) bottle. The top has an angled cap that allows me to squirt the cleaner directly under the rim of the toilet bowl. The blue colored gel is extremely thick, and it really does stick to the porcelain. In fact, I usually squirt the cleaner in the toilet, then proceed to clean other areas of my bathroom. When I return to finish cleaning the toilet, the blue gel is still adhered to the bowl! This makes my cleaning job much easier. After all, if the cleaner ends up in the bottom of the bowl it will get extremely diluted, without much cleaning power. Some toilet cleaners are indeed so watery they do exactly that. I avoid these products like the plague.

Product Claims

* Cleans and deodorizes even under the rim
* Thick liquid formula sticks to the bowl for better cleaning
* Leaves a fresh, clean scent
* Will not harm plumbing or septic tanks

Thoughts

This Lysol cleaner works well. I love the fresh smell that lingers after my cleaning chores are finished. Since I do have a lot of children around, I love the child resistant cap. Some of these types of caps can be difficult for me to open, but this design is easy. I simply squeeze the cap and turn it counterclockwise 1/4 turn. The cap will pop up. Closing it is as easy as turning it back the opposite direction and it snaps securely shut.

The directions recommend using at least 4 ounces (1/4 cup) to get the job done, but I don’t think I have ever used that much and I get adequate results. This product does contain quaternium ammonium compounds, so do not ever use chlorine bleach with it, as toxic fumes will result. This can be very dangerous! I know that some people use bleach to help whiten their toilets, so I want to be sure you know this is one product that you cannot mix with chlorine. The cleaner is environmemtally conscious in that it does not contain any phosphates. The bottle is made up of 25% post-consumer recycled plastic.

After cleaning my toilets with Lysol Cling Gel, the porcelain does shine and smell clean. However, I do have a few dark streaks running down the bowl, and this product did not remove those stains.

Lysol Cling is available in Country Scent, Spring Waterfall and Citrus fragrances. It retails at my supermarket for $2.99.
