How Far Can the UCONN Huskies Go in the NCAA Tournament

The UCONN Huskies by many people are considered to be the most talented and deepest team, much like North Carolina was last year. They have a team with mixed ages and experience and some players who will be drafted in the NBA next year.

One of the most talented players on the team is Rudy Gay. Going into this season Gay was considered to be a top 3 pick at the shooting guard, small forward position. He has ideal size and quickness. He had do it all including blocks, points, rebounds, and assits. However his NBA value went down as his showed an inablitity to take over games with his athletic and natural talents. He has had games were he showed how great he was by having amazing blocks and scoring over 20 points in a game. However he has been very inconsistent.

At point guard is the Marcus Williams who has become one of the best point guards in the leauge. He is averaging just under 11 points per game and a wopping 8.6 assits per game in his junior year. Most people expect him to enter the NBA draft and with his skills he should go early in the 1st round. Williams is able to get all of his teammates involved in the game and is an integral part of this offense.

At the other forward/center position is Josh Boone. Boone is also in his junior year and has NCAA tournament experience, as do most players on this UCONN roster. He is averaging about 11 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game along with 2 blocks per game. UCONN leads the nation in most amount of blocks and Boone is a huge reason why.

The fourth roster spot in the starting lineup belongs to senior guard Rashard Anderson. Anderson is a deadly sharp shooting shooting guard who has range deeop beyond the 3 point arc. Anderson plays guard and small forward and has the ability to space the floor out and create his own shot. While he might not get drafted in the NBA next year, he is averaging 13 points per game for UCONN which has one of the best offenses in the league and he has helped his team tremendously in close games and has hit some game winning shots along the way.

The last spot in the lineup varies by game and there are a variety of players who see minutes at that spot including Jeff Adrian, Marcus Johnson, and seniors Hilton Armstrong and Ryan Thomson. These players don’t do much scoring or rebounding and the other 4 starters are the ones that this team havily relies on.

Coach Calhoun is one of the best coaches in college basketball and has over 700 victories as a coach.

There is some major cause for concern in UCONN as they were recently defeated by Syracuse Orangemen who are on a hot streak right now. The loss in overtime could possibly hurt their chacnes of getting a #1 seed in the tournament but most bracketology experts don’t think that will happen. UCONN is still one of the best teams in the nation and having only 3 losses the entire season is an amazing accomplishment. I think with the starting lineup of this team they will without a doubt advance to the final 4.
