Fruit Flies might seem small and harmless but not only are they annoying but they can also carry unhealthy bacteria that can hurt you or your family or even your pets. Eliminating the fruit fly is not only useful to eliminate a nuisance but it a must for good health and sanitation in your home. There are many free things that you can easily and quickly do to help deter fruit flies. If you already have flies in the house there are ways you can get rid of them that are easy, cheap, and can even be fun too.

Preventive measures are the first and best measures that you should take to eliminate fruit flies from your home. The first thing is to look for possible locations that the flies can enter your house. Holes in screens should be covered, doors should be closed immediately after use, and other places you can find that they may enter should be covered up.

Make sure that you do not have any food lying out. Even when stored in cabinets over along time flies can reach the food and breed in the food. If you have food out for anytime make sure to cover the food so it will not attract flies and if flies are around the flies will not eat or breed in the food, food is one of the places that flies like to breed so watch out.

Besides food water is a necessity to the flies for life as well as for ideal conditions for both breeding and also for germs and bacteria that they may get on them and which they may give to you. Leaky sinks, dripping faucets can all be breeding grounds for flies and germs along with other problems like mold and rot and should be checked occasionally.

Keep things clean. You will want to clean your utensils regularly which is good common sense but you will also want to make sure there is not any hard to get off grunge on anything any little bit of food or water a fly and germs will take advantage of.

If you have houseplants move them occasionally because underneath the plant can be a great place for flies and germs to thrive so moving them will help to eliminate these optimum conditions for them.

Flytraps are on option though they can be messy and you may not want to use them if you have children or pets that could get trapped instead. Flyswatters are a traditional fly killer but now you can use electric flyswatters that do not cost much more the traditional flyswatter. An advantage of electric fly zappers is that you do not have to hit the fly a fly zapper with a good charge will kill a fly from far away. Also kids will be happy to help kill flies if they get to electrocute them.

If you follow some simple and basic sanitation guidelines you can avoid fruit flies altogether. If you already have problems with fruit flies kill what you can and then make an environment that will keep the flies from coming back.
