How to Charge a Candle for Magical Purposes

When does an ordinary, everyday object become one of power? When you make it one. An ordinary everyday candle takes on a whole new meaning when you put it to use with an intent attached to it, you then are turning it into a highly magical object.

First lets talk about what intent basically means. Intent is a thought about a need, like I need to draw more money into my life or I need to find a job or I need to focus and pass this test. You need something and are looking to bring that into your life. This need is what your intent will be. This is the thought you will put within the candle and by doing so you can draw what you need into your life.

Okay, so we will pick needing more money as our intent in this example since we all can use more of that right? But now we need to find the right candle to put that into. One of the easiest ways to go about this is by choosing a color that corresponds with what you need. So below I have included some common color correspondences to assist you in matching what you need and may want to look for in candle color.

White. Purity, spirit, truth and also can be used as a general propose color.

Green. Drawing, abundance, money, fertility.

Yellow. Courage, confidence, persuasion, success, expansion.

Gold. Wealth, power, money.

Light Blue. Tranquility, healing, calming, peace.

Dark blue. Deep healing, Depression (to over come) changeability in self or situation.

Red. Vigor, strength, love, passion and anger.

Orange. Energy, stimulation, attraction, adaptability.

Brown. Earth, stability, grounding.

Black. Banishment, loss.

Purple. Power, psychic powers, spirituality

Grey. Neutrality, cancellation, union of opposites.

We want to draw in some money, so from this list we can see that the color Green or Gold will go along with what we need. It can be difficult to find Gold candles out side of the holiday season but you can usually always find green ones, so we will go with that color.

The size really does not matter but when choosing a candle keep in mind that for your working, in most cases, the spell is complete when the candle completely goes out. So a big or thick candle is something too consider, as it will need to be watched and you don’t want to burn down your house. You will also need a candleholder or fireproof container.

There are as many different ways to charge a candle, as there are candles. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you want it to be as both ways work, I have found, just as well. We are going to go with the simple way just to get you started and feel free to add as you are led. Below are some things that you can add and that are fairly common practices.

Oils. You can anoint your candle with an essential oil, which goes along with your needs. You can buy ready made oils, such as money drawing at your local witch shop or you can just get oils such as High John oil and all spice. You don’t need much and remember that oil is flammable. There are a couple of ways to anoint with oil, the half and half method or the all in one direction method. Both ways work and I have not found there to be much difference as to the outcome. It is not necessary to anoint your candle to charge it but it can add some zip.

Herbs. You can simply just rub or roll your candle in herbs that correspond with your needs. Again this is not necessary but will add to the working.

Symbols. You can carve symbols into your candle, so for money you could carve in dollar signs or for love little hearts. Also not necessary but can really help with infusing the candle with the needed energy.

Okay so now we will go through the basic methods.

Decide what you need. (For this example, it’s money.) Get this as solid as you can in your mind; see you self with all of the money needed. See yourself paying that bill, or having the money to buy what you need. It can be helpful to write it down but do so in a positive such as “my phone bill is paid.”

Get your supplies together.

Hold your candle and think of your need and it being met. Just as you did in #1.

You can then carve it with symbols, anoint it with your oil, (wick to end if you are drawing something too you or from end to wick if you want something to go away from you), and then roll it the herbs. You can do all three or none it is up to you.

Put the candle in its holder. For an extra zip you can also with your hand draw a circle over the candle. Three, six or nine times in a clock wise motion to bring something to you or in a counter clock wise one, to remove it.

Sit down and light your candle. It is a good idea to spend time focusing on the end result and depending on the size of your candle, keep this up until it goes out.

If you cannot sit there and watch it or if you are using a larger candle, simply put it out. You can always continue the working at a later time or in the case of a larger candle you can just burn a portion of it at a set time each day. Either way when the candle goes out the working is done.

It can take a while sometimes to see the effects of your working, although I have had things happen right away, often they will take a complete moon cycle before you will see any changes or have an outcome to the situation. Being patient is often difficult but try to be. Keeping your thoughts on a positive outcome is the very best thing to do, as well as keeping your eyes open as to opportunities that may come your way that could solve your dilemma. For example, being offered an extra job or a raise. Money does not fall from the sky, but the universe will provide if you are actively participating and taking the necessary steps to improve your situation.
