How to Clean Your Refrigerator like New

Cleaning your refrigerator can seem like a daunting task, but with just a little effort and a few household cleaning items, cleaning your refrigerator can be a snap. It is important to keep your refrigerator as clean as possible in order to keep all the surfaces sanitary and your food fresh.

All you’ll need to clean your refrigerator are a sponge, soft scrub brush, baking soda, dish soap, and kitchen towels for drying.

Here are some simple steps to follow when cleaning your refrigerator:

1. Turn your refrigerator to the off position while you are cleaning so as not to waste electricity.

2. Take all of your food and drink items out of your refrigerator and set aside. While you are removing items, be sure to check expiration dates and throw away any spoiled food and drink items. Also, wipe down sticky jars and containers so that they’ll be clean and ready to go back in the refrigerator as soon as you are finished cleaning.

3. Remove all of the drawers and shelves from your refrigerator and place them in your kitchen sink for cleaning.

4. Clean all of the drawers and shelves using dish soap, warm water, and a sponge in your kitchen sink. Use the scrub brush to remove any hardened food stains or residue on the drawers and shelves. Dry the refrigerator drawers and shelves with kitchen towels and set aside.

5. Mix a quart of warm water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda together and use this solution with a sponge to wipe down the interior of your refrigerator, including the walls and any compartments. The baking soda is great for helping to control odor. Again, use the scrub brush for any stubborn, caked on food inside the refrigerator.

6. Use clean, warm water and a clean sponge to rinse off the interior of your refrigerator.

7. Dry the interior of your refrigerator with clean, dry dish towels.

8. Replace all drawers and shelves.

9. Put all of your food and drink items back into your refrigerator and turn it back on to your preferred temperature setting.

10. Close your refrigerator and clean the outside with a sponge and warm soapy water. Then rinse with a clean sponge.

To minimize how often you have to clean your refrigerator, be sure to clean up all spills inside your refrigerator as they happen in order to prevent them from really caking up and making a bigger mess.
