Macular Degeneration

Dry macular degeneration is an early stage of the disease, and may result from the aging and thinning of macular tissues, depositing of pigment in the macula, or a combination of the two processes. The focal point of the retina is called Macula and any destruction can cause one to lose focus with their eyesight. Eyes are one of the most sensitive parts of a human body and the most important sensory organ. Macular degeneration causes loss of pigment within the retina, which is due to the eye vessels leaking blood and can cause blindness.

One of the main symptoms is the development of blind spots, which are present in the eyesight when one looks. It’s a dark spot that appears with one’s vision. Laser surgery is needed to correct Macular degeneration to stop the leaking of the blood vessels in the eye. To see if Macular degeneration is present the doctor conducts a test called Fluorescein Angiography to decide whether laser treatment is needed and if it helps alleviate the condition. However, unfortunately with Macular degeneration the person’s eyesight will never return back to normal or be able to focus properly.

Macular degeneration, which occurs as a result of advancing age, is called ARMD. The central vision is hampered but one does not go blind. Causes of Macular degeneration can be due to a lack of Vitamin C and other dietary factors like carotenoids. Smoking, hypertension, high blood pressure, heredity, obesity, and lighter eye color can all cause macular degeneration. Smoking can be a major cause in bringing about blindness with the disease because it tends to thin out the pigments of the retina. Alcohol can also cause Macular degeneration because plasma levels in antioxidant vitamins can be destroyed due to alcohol consumption. Inactivity can cause macular degeneration regular exercise can increase the flow of regular blood circulation. Since a healthy liver is one of the indicators of good eyesight, one should learn the ways to keep the liver healthy. To decrease your chances of getting macular degeneration eat as healthy as you can. Papaya and a lot of other green leaves and colored vegetables helps keep the liver healthy and can prevent you from getting macular degeneration.
