Middle Village, New York

Middle Village earned its name because it is the exact middle of Queens County. There are many one family homes and most residents own their houses. Many of the historic buildings are gone now, replaced by more modern ones. One such was Neiderstein’s Restaurant. It was built in 1850 and served as a neighborhood landmark restaurant up to a couple of years ago when it was sold and ultimately demolished I remember many a party in their private rooms and many enjoyable dinners.

Housing in Middle Village
Rentals are hard to find. There are some three family houses with 3- bedroom apartments, and some smaller apartments in smaller two family houses, but they are few and far between. Middle Village is a good place to live if you want to own your home.

Housing prices at about $400,000 for a two bedroom attached house, up to $600,000 for a detached three bedroom home. There are many different styles of houses in Middle Village.

Transportation in Middle Village
It is easy to get to anywhere from Middle Village. The “M” train starts its run in Middle Village and takes you direct to the downtown financial district of Manhattan. You can also catch the bus on 80th Street to Queens Blvd. to catch the subway to midtown Manhattan, or a regular or an express bus over the 59th Street Bridge.

Employment in Middle Village
Most residents of Middle Village work in Manhattan, or in one of the shopping malls throughout Queens County. There are some industries including Bowe Industries, a tee shirt manufacturer
but it is considered more of a “satellite” community of Manhattan

Schools in Middle Village
There are two public elementary schools in Middle Village, PS 128. PS 87 is a combination elementary and junior high. The zoned high school for Middle Village is Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood. But in New York City, a student has the right to apply to any high school he or she wishes. The Board of Education gives every Junior High or Middle School student a High School Guide explaining the special programs in each High School and the requirement for admission.

Recreation in Middle Village

Juniper Valley Park is the recreational center for Middle Village. It is over 16 acres and has basketball courts, baseball court, a running track a sprinkler pool and lots of green grass for picnics. Also there is a large lawn that is great for kite flying.
Middle Village has easy access by train and bus or car to Manhattan and other parts of Queens It is a quick trip to Shea Stadium to see the Mets.

Shopping in Middle Village

Metropolitan Avenue is the main shopping street in Middle Village, with a grocery store, 2 bakeries and many other small shops. At the western end of town, is the Metro Mall. The Metro Mall has a BJ’s Shopping Club, and many small stores including a pet store, Fashion Bug, Music store etc. Also there, but in a separate facility, is a Toys R Us and a K Mart. Middle Village is also a short drive to Queens Center Mall with a Macy’s and J. C. Penny as the anchor stores
