Mirrored Table Runners for Your Home

Table runners are popular decor for many people. They add beauty to a table without covering it completely like tablecloths do. Runners are generally about a third the width, or more, of the actual table, and come in all types of cloths, tapestries, even plastics. The one table runner that’ll really put the others to shame, though, is a mirrored table runner.

A mirrored table runner is unconventional since most table runners are made from a type of cloth or plastic. But, the mirrored table runner can be set up in so many different ways, it’s like having many runners of your choice, and is way more beautiful than an ordinary runner.

The mirrors should be purchased singly or in a set. Some sets have a long mirror and two smaller ones, sometimes shaped differently. If you don’t see a set that looks like it’ll work for your table, look at the single mirrors that can be put together for the same effect. All mirrors in the set, though, should be the same width. In addition, none of the mirrors should be in a frame. Instead, the mirrors can have decorated perimeters or etching – but no frame.

The finished table runner should go down the middle of the table – the design is your own. Place one long mirror through the center, with a smaller mirror on each side. Or, place two long mirrors down the center with no end pieces. You can even place mirror tiles, straight in a row, with small gaps in between.

If you use end pieces, they can be the same shape as the long piece, but it’s ideal if they’re somewhat different. Mirrors which are shaped as octagons for the top half, then rectangular at the bottom half, are absolutely perfect, but you can also use other shapes, like triangular or another.

Center the long mirror in the middle of the table, making sure it’s evenly spaced on each end, then leave a gap at each end of the long mirror before laying down the end pieces. You can butt the pieces together, but to stretch the mirror over the entire length of the table, the gap is necessary and gives a striking look to the table.

The glass table runner, along with it’s end pieces, look best if the entire arrangement stops well before the ends of the table. The look isn’t quite the same if you stretch the mirrors from end to end.

Use the center mirror to hold a centerpiece, then the smaller end mirrors to hold salt and pepper shakers, and napkin holder. Or, use the set on a coffee table and use each mirror to hold something a collectible.

Department stores often have mirrors of different sizes, but in the same pattern. Try large department stores for your mirror choices before going to a more expensive store that specializes in mirrors. You can also get pieces cut at a glass store, and many of them will silver the mirror as well.

You’ll enjoy your mirror table runner with the light and beauty it brings. Guess will be in awe of the regal touches in your home, too. If you’ll be using the mirrors on a table with no cloth, though, consider gluing a non-skid rubber mat to the backs.
