Pro-life or Pro-choice, Why the Controversy?

The most controversial subject besides politics and religion is the topic of abortion. According to Webster’s Dictionary, the word abortion means the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Some people are pro-life, meaning they are opposed to abortion and especially to the legalization of abortion. Some people are pro-choice, meaning they are favoring the legalization of abortion. But why is this such a widespread argue mental topic? I personally believe that there should not be pro-life or pro-choice. Being pregnant is not an easy walk in the park. So many things can cause complications. So many issues can occur that the only resolution is abortion. Many states with to ban abortion no questions asked and enforce the 14th Amendment that constitutionally prohibits abortion on demand as a matter of equal protection. Some states require counseling and or a cooling off period before an abortion is performed.

Many states require an underage woman to obtain permission from their parent or guardian before the abortion is allowed to be performed. If an underage woman is responsible enough to have sexual intercourse, the underage woman is or should be responsible enough to make the decision of keeping or aborting the pregnancy. Parental figures should not interfere negatively. Treating this situation negatively will cause the child to rebel, not to mention heightened stress and anger which can cause high blood pressure and complications with the pregnancy. And as much as parents can say things to their children from the heat of anger that they don’t mean, deep down inside, parents do not wish any illness, pain, or death onto their children.

A few states are considering the proposal to end government financial support for women in poverty to get low cost or free abortions. This type or proposal can raise several points. Such an option of free abortions can be taken advantage on just like everything else in this world that is offered for free. Many women in these situations that abuse the option don’t think of any consequences to themselves. Many poverty level women decide to follow down dangerous paths where pregnancy and sexual transmitted diseases run ramped.

Sometimes there are cases which abortion is the best option. Many children born into poverty are abandoned in the streets after birth or not supported and suffer from diseases or starvation. Many women are scared to take their children to a shelter or to put up for adoption because of their level in society they feel ashamed or embarrassed. If we are going to give out anything that is low cost and free, let it be contraception. If the government is trying to ban abortion, to avoid such controversy, why don’t they just provide free condoms? It will cut down the pregnancy risk tremendously and help prevent sexually transmitted diseases. As much as the government is in debt by spending money on wars and things that isn’t needed, why can’t they fork out money for latex and distribute free condoms in schools, colleges, dorms, hospitals, put dispensers in restrooms at gas service stations, and convenient stores. Also, many states wish to ban abortions to preserve the woman’s life or health. This is understandable, however a woman’s life, body, and health are her own and it is not up to a state law to tell someone if their allowed to live or die based upon the states decision of the severity of the situation.

And last but certainly not least, the cause of pregnancy due to rape. If you are forced into having sex you should not be forced into having a child. I completely agree that there is a human being growing inside of you and that the situation of how a woman gets pregnant doesn’t matter, but there are always choices and the situation depends on the wellness and care for the child because a child isn’t just a one day or one week thingâÂ?¦.caring for a child you care for them for a lifetime.
The pro-life concept is spreading across America and New York took a chance to be the most permissive state passing an abortion law creating New York to be the country’s abortion refuge. A newspaper ad even ran a pitch title “Want to be un-pregnant?” In the year 2000, 39 out of every 1,000 women in the state ended a pregnancy, for a total of 164,000 abortions that year. New York has the highest abortion rate in America.

In parts of the city, the ratio of abortions to births is one to one. There should not be the quarrel of pro-life or pro-choice. There is no pro-life. If you are a woman that believes in pro-life, and you become pregnant, and while carrying the child, a health condition arises that jeopardizes you being able to sustain the life that you are carrying and you have to choose to either abort the pregnancy or risk the possibility of the child dying within you causing possibly complications to you, what would you choose? Or maybe the condition threatens you and the baby’s life and you would have to choose to save yourself or save the childâÂ?¦however you have to remember that that child counts on you to support it within you. What do you do? Woman’s bodies are their own. Not the clinics, not the states, not the governments, not anyone else’s choice to tell a woman she has to risk her life just because the law says so. Abortion is not the only choice woman have. Many women out there can not have children who want them desperately. Abortion is a choice not a pro-choice. Consider your options before choosing. And please stand up and defend woman’s rights to not let other people choose what we do with our life.
