Product Review: Swiffer Carpet Flick

The Swiffer Carpet Flick is a wonderful time saver for people with carpet and pets.

My bathroom has thin, indoor/outdoor carpet in it and the cat’s litter box. Before I found the Carpet Flick, I had to break out the vacuum or dust buster every day to keep the kitty litter under control.

The upright vacuum was big and clunky and the dust buster meant getting on my hands and knees every day in my bathroom floor. Then, we decided to try the Carpet Flick.

The Carpet Flick has “refills” that are replaced each time it is used. The refills are coated with a form of glue to attract particles of dust, or in my case kitty litter, to the refill.

When the job is done, the refill slides out of the Carpet Flick and into the trash.

With the Carpet Flick, I can quickly maintain the large floor areas of the bathroom without the time and effort of the vacuums. I use it for the daily maintainence of keeping the kitty litter out of the floor.

The downside of the Carpet Flick is its shape. It is boxy and cannot get into corners or around bathroom fixtures.

However, after using it in conjunction with the vacuum, I found an advantage that I wasn’t expecting.

My cat sheds and leaves a fine coating of grey hair all over the carpet. When I was using solely the vacuum to clean the floor, the cat fur was often left behind.

With the sticky nature of the Carpet Flick, the piles of kitten fur were gone, leaving the carpet cleaner than it had been since the cat was introduced tot he house.

The refills for the Carpet Flick are about $4 for twelve, so for $4 every two weeks I save time and energy cleaning the bathroom.

The Carpet Flick does not completely replace the vacuum. On a deeper pile carpet, the sticky surface sticks to the carpet and pulls it rather than just surface cleaning. And, I still have to break out the vacuum and it’s attachments to get into corners, in the crevice along the wall and around non-squared fixtures.

The other problem is that the surface area of the refills gets covered very quickly. It would not be sufficient for cleaning up a large area.

However, the Carpet Flick does pick up the kitty litter even better than the vacuum does. It makes cleaning up small messes as easy as peeling the liner off the refill and sliding the Carpet Flick along the carpet.

For daily maintenance of the area around my cat’s litter box, the Carpet Flick is perfect.
