Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner Product Review

Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner promises to magically clean your shower with the push of a button. Can a little jet stream remove mold, mildew, and soap scum?

When my husband and I found ourselves once again alone in the house with only the cat for company, I decided it was time to start getting rid of everything we didn’t want, need or use.

As I removed clutter, I revealed more space to clean. A trip to the local mart store resulted in all the latest cleaning products. I’d used Scrubbing Bubbles products in the past.

The foaming bath cleaner worked well but had a strong chemical smell that set off my allergies. So I decided to take a chance on the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner.

Once home, I unpacked my purchases and prepared to do battle. Upon opening my newly purchased shower cleaning kit, I tried not to be too hopeful. The less I expected, the less disappointed I would be.

Inside the box I found:

One power sprayer
Two 34 oz Refill Bottles
Four AA batteries
One hanger

Assembly was simple. I like that the batteries were included. After popping them in, I lined up the arrow on the sprayer and the bottle of cleaner and dropped the bottle in. After slipping the hanger on, I hung the automatic cleaner inside the shower.

While Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner is not recommended for showers with Brass fixtures, natural marble or finished wood, I had none of those to contend with. The glass doors on my shower were one of the main reasons I wanted to try the automatic cleaner.

Operation is simple. After the last shower of the day, you push the button and close the shower door (or curtain). A fifteen-second beep warns you that the unit is about to activate. If you bump the button or need to turn the unit off instead of letting it run, you can push the button again and deactivate it.

Once activated, the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner spins all the way around for 12 seconds, releasing a pre-measured and pre-mixed cleaner. The directions state that the spray will reach over 8 feet.

When using the automatic shower cleaner, you can clean the shower before using the product or let the product clean the shower, taking as long as 10 days to do so.

Being the busy woman that I am, I opted for the 10-day method. Within 3 days, the cleaner had removed all but one thin strip of soap scum. I opted to wipe that streak myself but could have moved the automatic cleaner down to the shower door.

The shower isn’t slick after cleaning. It smells clean, with just a hint of bleach. Nothing strong enough to set off allergies or sinuses. Maintenance is a matter of changing batteries and replacing the bottle of cleaning fluid. Nothing difficult.

The directions state that the cleaning spray is safe for bath sponges. After failing to remove my bath sponge, however, I went to use it only to find it felt rough and smelled of bleach. Not good.

While the cleaner doesn’t affect plastic bottles (shampoo, etc.) it can cause some fabrics to fade.

I haven’t had my shower cleaner for a month yet. The booklet that came with it states that a bottle of solution lasts up to 21 cleanings and that batteries can last up to four months. I anticipate a long relationship.

I’m happy with Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner. I like stepping into a clean shower every day. Technology is great when it works so well.
