Tennessee’s Starrcrest Resort Cabin: Four-Story Cabin Has it All

Our family recently went on vacation to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We stayed at the Starrcrest Resort. Eighteen of us in all stayed in their “It’s Got It All” cabin.

The Starrcrest Resort website portrays this cabin well. We stayed in August, when the rates were lower. The parking was adequate enough to fit everyone’s vehicle. There were 6 cars parked in the parking lot with enough room for more. There were 2 grills in the parking lot as well – big charcoal grills. We prefer charcoal ourselves because of the smell and taste of the food, so we were glad to see them.

This cabin has an elevator in it which serves to be very handy going floor to floor. You have to get the hang of using it though. There is a sliding door inside the main door that HAS TO BE SHUT WHEN USING THE ELEVATOR AND AFTER GETTING OUT BEFORE SHUTTING THE MAIN DOOR. It will not work properly if you don’t do this. Make sure the main door on the floor you get out on is shut all the way, give it an extra push. We had a little bit of a problem with getting the hang of this, but we did. There is a phone in the elevator if you need it, but we didn’t need to use it and we stayed for 3 days. The stairs are on the outside of the cabin, there are no stairs inside.

There is also an intercom system…VERY HANDY. This was great because we could call everybody to one floor, for general communication and not have to go up and down stairs and the elevator. Make sure the dial on the side is turned on or you’ll think it isn’t working, and make sure to let go of the button when you’re finished talking…kind of like walkie talkies.

We went into the bottom floor first. Aside from the bedrooms and bathrooms that are on each floor, this floor has a movie theater. It is a giant white board that reminds me of a huge dry erase board hung on the wall. You could either mark with dry erase markers or run the movie projector. It worked very well, although we had a bit of trouble figuring out how to work the projector and DVD player, and what remote went to what, but we finally figured it out. The seating was excellent. There were leather couches and love seats that were extremely soft and comfortable. End tables were there as well. This floor also has a small kitchen counter with a sink, small refrigerator, cabinets with glasses, and a popcorn machine like they have in the theaters. Bags for the popcorn were already there, but you have to bring your own popcorn to pop. Get the bigger bags at Wal-Mart or wherever you shop.

The second floor is the kitchen. There is a double fridge with ice maker, a stove, sink, dishwasher, garbage disposal in the sink, and plenty of cabinet space. The counters were big enough for the caterers to put everything on without needing an extra table. There was plenty of dish ware, but you might want to take paper plates and cups so you don’t have to be washing dishes all the time. The chandeliers looked like tree branches and the cabinet fixtures looked like twigs…very nice. The room has 3 long tables that you can move to suit your needs. We moved them into a “U” shape one night for a party and that worked quite well. It gave a big space for dancing. This floor also has the laundry room with washer and dryer and a computer and internet access (you’ll want to have a local access number) in one of the bedrooms. The laundry room has an iron and ironing board, also a small ironing board.

The third floor is the game room and has a fireplace with a big flat-screen TV over it. This is the floor that we stayed on. We loved it because we have children and the gameroom kept them occupied. So if you have children you might want to push to be on this floor. There is an air hockey table, pool table, and a foozball table. There are also 3 game tables with chairs, big and heavy. One thing we didn’t like was some kind of game that was setting in the floor in front of the fireplace that you had to put quarters in to play. We didn’t let the children do this because there was plenty to do already. There is a regular refrigerator, fold-out couch, and a stereo system on this floor, too. One tip though, there is (or was when we were there) a game table setting close to the front of the main door to the elevator. You’ll want to move this over or this will become very aggravating. You might want to get someone to help you move it though, they’re rather heavy.

The fourth floor has the wet bar, small fridge , a fireplace with flat-screen TV over it, and a jacuzzi in the bathroom. The wet bar has a wine rack and a big ice maker in the bottom cabinets as well that makes alot of ice. There is a big game table and chairs and 2 couches with another seat or two as well. There are hot tubs on the 2nd and 4th floors. One word of caution though, be careful that the children do not get on top of the hot tubs when the covers are on. They come up almost level with the top of the deck railing and it would be very easy for a child (or anyone) to fall over the railing. The king-size beds were high off the floor for a short person like me. I had to slide down to the floor.

There was TV in every bedroom. The closets had extra pillows and blankets. The furniture was big, sturdy, thick wood furniture…very heavy and built well. Our over-all opinion of this cabin was outstanding! We loved it and everyone had fun and there was plenty to do. It’s a great cabin for family reunions, parties, anything that’s going to have alot of people. The views were spectacular and we got alot of great pictures. The decks are great for taking pictures with the mountains in the background and the railing on the decks are high enough so children cannot fall over (take extra caution around the hot tub). It would be hard for anyone to fall over them easily for that matter. The resort employees were very hospitable. The gave us phone messages received at their office while we were there and they sent a repair man over immediately when we called about the elevator..thinking it wasn’t working, but we figured it out.

I would recommend this cabin for anyone. If you decide to stay there, I hope you love it as much as we did!
