The Mirror

I looked into a special window
To see things I normally could not.
I couldn’t see sky nor the ground
In fact, I couldn’t see a lot.
But I did see a man,
He looked kind of dirty,
He took a few rough times,
He must have been thirty.
His eyes resembled those
That did not sleep a wink.
The man was always drunk,
For his life, he couldn’t think.
He was a beggar
For he had no money.
People walked by
And looked at him funny.
I thought to myself
“I’m sorry for the man.”
I would’ve gladly extended
My only helping hand.
Thoughts crossed my mind,
As something was peculiar.
A horror struck my soul,
For something was……familiar.
His reddened eyes called out to me
And said as plain as day;
They said “Look boy! Look at me!
Don’t let it end this way!”
I turned away, then looked back
But nothing could I see.
I stared a while and knew
The man I saw…………was ME!
