The Pros and Cons to Having One Large Sink

If you are planning on replacing your sink and thinking about if you want to get one large or two small ones for your kitchen, or even just in the market for finding a place to rent or buy and want to think about whether you want a kitchen with one large sink of two small ones here are the pros and cons of having one large kitchen sink.

Pros of One Large Sink

More Dishes at a Time are Placed in Hot Water
You can place a lot more dishes in at a time and that way more dishes will be exposed to the soapy water when it is at it hottest. That way more of your dishes won’t just get clean they will also get sanitized.

Large Items Will Fit Better
You can clean larger bowls, pots, pans and platters easier because you will actually be able to place them in the sink and submerge them in the soapy dish water rather than angling them half submerged in the water and half not. Plus it is easier to soak large items if you need to, without having to place them on the counter.

Soak More Dishes
If you don’t rinse your dishes before you wash them and need to soak them for a little while, to loosen up any remaining foods, you can soak more dishes at a time. Plus more dishes can be soaking when the water is at its warmest.

Giving Your Baby a Bath in the Sink is Easier
If your baby sits up unassisted you may decide to give them baths in the kitchen sink before you give them baths in the bathtub, when you have one large sink it is a lot easier and you will be able to do it longer.

Cons of One Large Sink

Small Quantity of Dishes Can Waste Water
If you only have a few dishes to do you will waste water when you fill up the sink, than if you were filling a sink that was half the size.

No Way To Pour Liquid Down the Drain Once You Are Washing Dishes
Once you fill up a large sink with water you aren’t able to dump out any liquids down the drain if you need to.

Rinsing is Harder
You have a few options of how you rinse when you have already filled up the sink with soapy water but the options are harder than if you had a second sink for rinsing.

You may find that your kitchen has only one sink, something that is common when you have a dishwasher but not always.
