Loretta Lynn was the leading country female vocalist during much of the 1960’s and 1970’s. In the 1970’s, she became one of the most famous women in all of America and frequently made most admired women polls alongside first ladies and world leaders. Loretta Lynn is perfect choice for me to showcase my favorite Top Ten Songs by Loretta Lynn.

Loretta Lynn has written over 160 songs and earned eight BMI awards. It was her unique original material, being sassy and bluntly addressing issues in the lives of many women that made her stand out among country female vocalists and brought the country artist to the attention of many fans and critics outside the field who were as fascinated by her as the country market was.

She has released 70 albums and had 17 number 1 albums and 27 number 1 singles. Lynn was no stranger to controversy. She had more banned songs than any other artist in the history of country music.

Here is my favorite Top Ten Songs by Loretta Lynn.

10) Coal Miner’s Daughter – Loretta Lynn wrote this song and it is about her life growing up poor. However they always had plenty of love. As a child I always loved this song and could relate to it because even though we were poor our father always made sure we knew he loved us.

9) Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ – This song has always been one of favorites. It is a fast tempo country song. It lets the man know not to come home drunk because you don’t want that kind of love.

8) Fist City – This song is a funny song but the meaning is clear, stay away from the girl’s man or you’ll be sorry.

7) High on a Mountain Top – This is a new song of Loretta Lynn’s, she can still sing with the best of them. It was releases in April of 2004, a track from the album Van Lear Rose. This song is about enjoying life and being happy just because of love and kindness.

6) Rated X – This song is about a woman who is divorced and how people think because you are divorced you are the type of person who will get around so of course you are Rated X.

5) The Pill – This song is about the birth control pill. It is saying that the woman is done with having kids and being stuck at home so now she is taking the pill so she can enjoy life some outside the house.

4) You Ain’t Woman Enough to Take my Man – This is another traditional fast Loretta Lynn song letting the other woman know that yea a man might drift but he loves his wife and will not leave for her.

3) Your Sqaw is on the Warpath – Another funny song telling the man that you have had enough of the drinking and running around, and you are fed up.

2) What Kind of Girl – Song about telling your man you are not easy. If there’s no wedding ring there’s no lovin’.

1) The Letter – The letter is a duet song by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty this song is my #1 choice of the Top Ten Songs by Loretta Lynn. The song is about a woman running into an old boyfriend and asking him to write a letter saying he still loves her to make her new boyfriend jealous he says he will but the catch is he does still really love her. This is a very pretty song it is done in a talking form more then singing but with the beautiful music that plays with it, it makes it my number 1 on Top Ten Songs by Loretta Lynn.

If you want to hear some good country music then the songs on Top Ten Songs by Loretta Lynn are a great place to begin.
