Windex Clean and Shine Microfiber Cloths

It seems like for the past few years, rather than trying to make better, more durable products, companies have been moving in the direction of trying to make cheaper, less durable, disposable versions of their products. Windex Clean and Shine Dry Microfiber cloths seem to be a movement toward reversing this trend.

The Windex Clean and Shine Microfiber cloths are marketed as an alternative to paper towels to be used with Windex glass cleaner, but their uses go far beyond that. They can be used with just about any liquid cleaner, including homemade cleaners, or they can be used dry for dusting, as an alternative to dusters or with a sweeper handle. Like all microfiber cloths, these cloths are more absorbent than paper towels or regular cloth towels or rags. They therefore excel at picking up liquid spills, dust, and debris. The static charge of the microfiber cloths make them practically attract dust. Microfiber also cleans surfaces without any lint residue, so, as advertised, it is excellent for cleaning windows and mirrors. Microfiber is also very gentle and can therefore be used to clean a variety of surfaces, from flat top cook surfaces to expensive sunglasses.

Best of all, though, Windex Clean and Shine Microfiber cloths are designed to be reusable. They can be washed and reused several times, thus making them much more environmentally and economically sound than paper towels or disposable dusters or dustpads. While Windex mentions this on the packaging, they do not go out of their way to promote the reusability of these towels. Sold in packs of twelve, these cloths are marketed much more for their absorbency for their reusability, but a pack of twelve mcirofiber cloths should be able to last you months.

That being said, these are not the most durable microfiber cloths available. After about three washings, they seem to lose their absorbency a little bit and are no longer good at attracting dust and particulate debris. They can still be used with cleaning solution for a few more washings after that, but they quickly start to deteriorate. The good news is that the twelve packs are relatively inexpensive, so you don’t need to be too precious with them. If you have a major mess, you can go ahead and use them and throw them away. For everyday messes, though, this is definitely a reusable product and one I’m likely to keep stocking my cleaning supply pantry with.
