Difference between Goggles and Glasses

Most people mistakenly believe that goggles and glasses are interchangeable terms. While it is true that both these products form eye-wear, they have different characteristics, uses and benefits.

Given their differences, the two are not replaceable with each other and a purchaser needs to be aware of these differences before he/she decides to buy a pair of either glasses or goggles.

The biggest difference you will be able to note is in the design of both these items. While they come in different shapes, there is often a standard frame design which is consistent across all types. When you look at glasses, you will notice that they are designed to rest on your ears, and cannot generally be adjusted anywhere else on your head.

On the other hand, goggles often employ flexible material and can be worn the way you like. The front part will obviously be designed to cover eyes, but you can adjust how you want to wear them on your head.

Furthermore, glasses have different types, and are often used to aid weak eyesight. The lenses used in them vary in terms of strength and focal power in order to accommodate as many people as possible.

Compared to them, goggles serve a different purpose altogether. They are worn to protect the eyes from dust, snow, water, debris, sun and other dangerous particles, especially during physical activities.

Although there is a lot of variety in the design of glasses, you will find even more diversity when it comes to goggles. The latter of the two products are often customized to suit the physical activity they are required for.

As compared to glasses, goggles often have bands which are fastened around the wearer’s head, securing them tightly before use.

With age, a person's eyesight naturally weakens. This is a natural process and is often dealt with by wearing corrective glasses. Glasses generally follow a standard design and rest upon the wearer's nose and ears.

Goggles are not intended to correct weak eyesight and are used for the protection of eyes, especially when it comes to outdoor activities.
