Choose a location:
You should start by deciding the location of your butterfly garden. It must be the place which has the maximum exposure. Ideally, you can create this garden either in backyard or in the lawn. Make sure that there is enough sunshine and air for the garden and it is a peaceful corner of your house.
Do some research:
Next thing you need to do is little bit research about the local climate, species of butterflies, suitable plants and flowery bushes. Remember, every specie of butterfly likes different type of flowers and plants. You may get this information from the local office of nature and wildlife. If you don’t have a nature centre in your area then consider internet for this purpose. There are countless websites that can provide you the required information about wildlife.
Prepare the land:
After doing your homework, it is time to prepare the land for a butterfly garden. Gear up and dig the land with your gardening tools. You will have to soften and dampen the soil before spreading seeds or planting flowery bushes directly.
Choose Host and Nectar plants:
Your next step will be to choose suitable plants for the butterfly garden. Make a list of host and nectar plants as butterflies are always attracted to these types of bushes. Milkweed, Parsley, Butterfly bush, Joe Pye Weed, Zinnia and Pentas are few examples of such plants.
Plant the flowers:
The most important thing is how you plant your flowers. Follow a pattern according to which taller bushes will be planted at the backside and smallest at the front. You may decide a theme and follow it to make your butterfly garden more beautiful.
