How to Learn to Ride a Motorcycle

It is not difficult to ride a bike, but you need to practice before hitting the main road. Follow some easy techniques to help you learn how to safely ride a motorcycle.

    Find the right bike

    The most important thing is to find the right motorcycle. There are many different brands and sizes so it is imperative that you get a model that is easy for you to understand. The best thing for starters is to buy a lighter vehicle, which can be easily controlled. Moreover, you need to be sure that the seating is comfortable otherwise you will be unable to concentrate properly.

    Sit on the bike

    Once you have found the right vehicle, you need to sit on it and place your hands on the handle. Make sure that you feel comfortable and relaxed while sitting on the motorcycle.

    Switch on the ignition

    Once you are comfortable on the bike, switch the ignition on. You will see a green or yellow light appear beneath the speedometer.

    Hit the kick

    Now, you need to hit the kick in order to get the engine running. Make sure that bike is in neutral mode before hitting the kick.

    Apply the clutch

    Using your left hand, apply the clutch by pulling the lever inwards. You need to hold it firmly and then go into the first gear. You will find the gear paddle with your left foot.

    Release the clutch

    Start releasing the clutch slowly and accelerate. The bike will now start moving ahead and you should now focus on handling.

    Shift the gears

    You can now shift the gears according to the speed of your motorcycle. Once you gain a bit of momentum, you have to shift to second gear and then continue repeating the same process until you hit the final gear. Make sure that you shift the gears backwards once the motorcycle decelerates.

    Apply the brakes to stop

    You will have two brakes available. One will be in your right hand and the other will be with the right foot. When you feel the need to stop, hit the paddle brake only. However, you may need to hit both brakes simultaneously when there is an emergency.
