Bursary Application Letter

Writing an application letter to the Bursary of the college/university is extremely important and keeping a proper format is even more so. If your application is well formatted it will obviously raise your chances of acceptance. You do not need to be an expert writer to make an application for funding for your studies. You also do not have to write a comprehensive proposal etc. Just be accurate, compact and to the point. Just make sure you answer all possible queries that can pop up in the mind of the person who is the final authority on deciding about the funds. Even an ordinary application can be accepted provided you have addressed some genuine and basic requirements.

Start opening of the letter by mentioning the reference through which you have learned about the bursary and then explain in the same sentence that you would like to apply for the financial support for your studies.

In second paragraph give details of your course, costs and how important is the course and overall studies for you, which due to lack of your ability to fund can be affected. You can also reflect on your recent past or recent academic achievements and record to better plead your case.

Closing paragraph should a formal request for the bursary and offering thanks to the college/university in advance.

Close the letter with your name and signature if you are sending it through post.

    Dear Mr. John

May I take this opportunity to apply for bursary grant. I have enclosed all required information along with forms and can further assist you in provision of more information with regard to the application.

As you would appreciate I am a talented student and have been progressing well with my studies and now all of sudden financial hardships can damage my educational career. I have passed my recent semester exams with flying colours and teachers have given me very encouraging picture of my efforts and appreciate my hard work.

Without finding a way to fund my education it will be difficult for me to continue my studies effectively. On other hand, if I take a part-time job to meet my education expense, it can also affect my abilities to pass the exams with equally impressive marks.

I shall be grateful if you give due consideration to my application.

    Yours Sincerely

Dear Mr/Ms [Last Name of Person]

I would like to apply for a college bursary support. I am a graduate student at [ABC University]. I have a great interest to pursue this degree course but financial difficulties are coming in my way to its successful completion.

Except for the financial hardships, I have been going well in my studies. I have recently topped in the trimester exam and lead my group of studies in all other co-curricular activities. My teachers are impressed with my encouraging progress, and the funding can help me focus my studies.

I shall be grateful for your kind consideration to my application. I thank you in advance, and look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours sincerely
