How to Wear a Ring Sling

If you have to carry your baby around for extended periods of time, then using a ring sling is a convenient way to do so, without having to exert yourself  too much. However, it is very important to know how to use the ring sling properly, or you might end up injuring your baby. According to several reports, babies are frequently injured because they end up falling out of the sling and hitting their heads. Another major concern is the position of your baby – you need to make sure the infant is getting plenty of air and room to breathe easily. Taking all these factors into consideration before wearing a ring sling is very important, in order to ensure the comfort and safety of your baby.

– Two metal rings

Instructions

The first thing you need to do is make a ring sling, for which you will need a long piece of cloth and two metal rings. Grab one end of the cloth and hold the rings in your other hand. Now, pass one end of the cloth between the rings. You have to thread the end of the cloth right through the inner ring.

At this point it is important to make sure that the cloth is evenly spread, with the rails accessible for adjustment.  You now need to grab the rings with one hand and move the other arm through the sling.

  • 3

Now, once you have made the ring sling, it is time to put it on by placing it over your shoulder with the ring on top.

  • 4

Then, you need to adjust the sling in order to make a pouch right in front of your body. Once this is done, proceed to pick your baby up and hold him/her on your shoulder.

  • 5

Now, this is the tricky part, where you have to hold the pouch open with your free hand, as you hold your baby with the other.

  • 6

Put the baby in the sling by lowering him/her into the pouch. Remember that the baby needs to be lowered sideways. He/she should be positioned across your body, with his/her head towards the ring.

Once the baby is in place, you can pull on the tail of the sling, to tighten the pouch as per your preferences.
