The first of these BBQ events, the Rocket City BBQ Cook-Off, is held in tandem to the Annual Whistle Stop Festival in Huntsville, Alabama during the first week of May. It offers attendees and contestants fourteen chances to win a cash prize.


The Rocket City BBQ Cook-Off is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned event, which really attests to the quality of this event because in order to receive this sanction the event needs to demonstrate dedication to high standards of cooking and judging. Another fun BBQ event in Alabama is the Mitchell Company BBQ Championship and Hog Wild Festival. This event is held in March at the Great Gulf State Fair Grounds, and includes a cook-off, music, cooking demonstrations, family activities, rock wall, science exhibits, pony rides, and a whole lot more.
