Biography of Michelle Rodriguez

Three words describe Michelle Rodriguez: talented, humble, and beautiful. She has been quoted in saying, “I don’t people to be like, ‘She’s hot-looking’, you know? I want them to listen to me for what I am saying. And I think the best way to do that is to sniff my armpits, and like, sit and burp every now and then.” Born in Texas on July 12, 1978 in the county of Bell, her youth was somewhat nomadic. Before age 11 her family had already lived in Texas, the Dominican Republic in 1986, and then Puerto Rico two years after. They finally settled down permanently in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Michelle received her fluency in Spanish as well as her moral virtue in the Dominican Republic from her grandmother who was a Jehovah’s Witness. The spiritual stability didn’t stick with Michelle personal life for too long. By seventeen years old she had already been kicked out of six schools and had given up on the school system.

Out of school Michelle had to go to work and that she did. She started her acting career as an extra. Later she appeared in Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam. In 1999 she also appeared in the Cradle Will Rock. By the age of twenty Michelle was a well oiled acting machine.

She also starred in the 2000 hit Girl Fight. It was noted that Michelle was known for showing up late and giving the director attitude witch was exactly what the role called for. So she got the leading part over 350 other applicants. She would play the role of Diana Guzman. The part called for very extensive training, so she would have to train like and actual boxer. This included two and a half mile running, sit-ups with twenty pound sand bags on top of her, and plenty of time in the gym. She not only was able to do this, but trained so well her trainer thought she should go pro.

The movie debuted at the Sundance film Festival where it was an instant success. Since then her resume includes such movies as Fast and the Furious, 3A.M, Resident Evil, and Swat. Yes, the young17 year old girl with attitude is now a Hollywood heavy hitter.
