The first step is to lay a piece of newspaper or scrap paper on top of the seat of your dining room chair. You need to trace this to create a pattern that exactly matches your seat.

Check it by laying the pattern cut out on your dining room chair seat. You can trim and touch up as needed.

Now, lay the paper pattern for your dining room chair out on some toile scrap booking paper or wrapping paper.

Trace the pattern with a pencil. Repeat this step for every shabby chic dining chair you need to cover.

Cut the toile tissue paper.

Tip: You can use a dining room chair that has a removable seat. Simply remove the seat and trace it, then put it back on.

Remember you are going to cover the seat though and leave the rest painted.

First, paint the surface of the seat of the dining room chair with decoupage.

Now, Dip your brush in the decoupage medium and then brush on the toile paper.

Carefully place the shabby chic toile scrapbook paper in place on the dining room chair. Line the edges up so it looks neat.

You can add more medium on top. Use more decoupage medium to hold this down if necessary.

Continue this process until you cover the entire set of wooden shabby chic Dining Room Chair Seats.

Note: The decoupage glue medium will dry clear and hard.

To antique your toile fabric Dining Room Chair Seat you can rub a wood gel stain onto the dried chair. Wipe it off with a clean dry cloth.

Now, you need to let this to dry for at lest an hour to four hours. Wipe away any excess if necessary.

Now you can also use sand paper to age your shabby chic toile Dining Room Chair Seat. I like to use a fine grit sand paper and rub away some of the toile tissue paper and wood stain.

Tip: You can reapply some gel stain to add more age as well. This will darken the areas where you sanded considerably.

Now, let this final coat of stain dry for about 24 hours. Do not sit on the shabby chic dining chairs until you are sure the gel stain is completely dry.
