Good Methods for Cleaning Your Carpet

If the carpets in your home are not cleaned regularly, a stronger chemical product will have to be used as the dirt will have ground itself deeper into the carpet making it more difficult to lift. To prevent an overly dirty carpet, it is better to ask visitors to remove their shoes so that they do not drag that loose dirt across the carpets.

The ‘carpet steam cleaning’ process draws dirt to the surface and wipes it out before it can begin to stain. After you spray the solvent and use a brush to reach all parts of the carpeted surface, the solvent draws dirt, which dissolves in the solvent. As a result, when the carpet is vacuumed dirt that has dissolved is removed.

In case there is some kind of solid dirt in the carpet, for example dry residues caused by spilt liquids after they dry, manual removal may be necessary. For general cleaning, choose a product based on the kind of dirt you want to clean. You can begin with a minimal cost and cleaning equipment needed are only the basic vacuum cleaner to suck up the dirt off the carpet that has to be cleaned, an ordinary or home-use carpet shampooer, including a locally-manufactured carpet shampoo. For best results, one should undertake a regular program of daily vacuuming, weekly dry absorbent powder cleaner, and a fairly frequent heavy-duty professional carpet cleaning to get rid of the deepest dirt and residue.

An effective method of cleaning carpet stains is to first collect as much of the offending spill as possible, and then blot inward. If your carpet has tough stains and dirt, it is wise to go for steam cleaning. Red wine stains can often be removed if they can be caught quickly enough. As a club soda can remove stains from clothing, carbonating cleaners can break down the dirt and stains in a carpet, which are then extracted to be virtually dry immediately after cleaning. If you add three teaspoons of clear dishwashing liquid, 1/4 cup of ammonia, and 1/4 cup of vinegar to a few gallons of water, you can easily remove most stains from your carpets. Another method is to immediately pour a little bit of white wine over the red wine to neutralize the “red” color of the wine. You should then blot all of the white and red wine up with a white towel. In the next step, get a clean white towel and dampen it by sprinkling water on it. Then, place the damp towel over the area where the spill was and step on it a few times. Then place down and step on a dry towel until all of the moisture is absorbed.

For removing candle wax from carpets, you first cover the spot with a brown paper bag or old cloth and run a hot iron over the bag. Keep moving the bag to a “dry” part of the bag till it can absorb all of the wax. The wax comes up immediately and it does not harm your iron.

Using these methods will ensure that your carpet will remain clean and beautiful for a long time.
