There are many paths leading to successful conception, many of the most important factors must be looked at months or years in advance of your attempt to get pregnant! For starters, if you or your partner smoke, you may already be minimizing your chances for successful conception. The same goes for those who drink alcohol, as smoking and drinking contribute to the deformation of sperm cells.

One of the first things you should do in preparation for conception is take a look at your general health. It is best to minimize your alcohol intake and smoking. Analyze your diet with your doctor, contrary to what many think, your diet plays a vital role in conception. You must first make your body completely healthy for your baby to be. Your doctor may prescribe a new diet consisting of fruits and vegetables, along with a multi-vitamin.

Physical fitness is also a major player in this game. If you are overweight, you are greatly decreasing your chances of conceiving. Those who exercise 2-3 times per week for 30-45 minutes each session, are more likely to become pregnant than someone who is not active. If you are not already on a regular exercise schedule, you should consult with your doctor in order to develop a healthy exercise routine for yourself and your partner.

For women, it is important to understand how your body works and what days you ovulate. To understand when you are most fertile, you must first know how long your cycle is. A normal cycle begins on the first day of your period and lasts approximately 28 days. Because each woman’s body is different, some women may experience shorter or longer cycle. It is understood that ovulation occurs around the 10th to 14th day of your cycle. As stated before, this may not be the case for every woman, so you should get with your doctor to find out more about monitoring your cycle and finding out which days are prime for conception.

The idea is to have sex when you are ovulating, which is when the egg is released in the woman. Understanding your cycle and how your body works can greatly increase your chances of getting preganant, and eating healthy and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle can greatly increase your chances of having a healthy pregnancy.
