Review: Bombard Rustic Cabins in Saranac Lake, New York

When camping in the Adirondacks, consider Bombard Rustic Cabins for your accommodations. These cabins in Saranac Lake, New York are fun and family friendly. They are close to lots of attractions and hiking as well as the high peaks region. Dogs are allowed, and the cabins are available year round.

Recently our family decided to visit the Adirondacks and chose to stay at Bombard. My girlfriend remembered staying there over ten years ago, and thought the kids would like it, so through the magic of the internet we hunted them down and made reservations. This is a small, family owned enterprise that does not accept credit cards. They require that a deposit be mailed in before they will hold a cabin for you. In our case, it was a spur of the moment trip, well after the peak foliage season in the late fall, so they waived the deposit and reserved the largest cabin to hold our brood of two adults and four kids.

All together there are four sites you can stay, three with cabins, and one with a camper and a lean to. Each site is somewhat secluded and the amount of people that can stay varies by cabin. The cabins have central heating and cold water with hand pumps in the sinks. Each cabin has a unique personality. Our cabin had five rooms. The large kitchen was complete with table, stove, cookware, and utensils. There was also a small woodstove which we didn’t use, but it may have been nice to have a fire in the winter. A small bedroom with a double bed was off the kitchen. The kitchen led into a sitting room with settees and sofas and lots of books and interesting things to look at. In the back there was a bedroom with 2 twin beds and a crib and a pretty glassed in room with a rocking chair and a loveseat that opened into a twin bed. This room was my favorite. It had more books and tons of board games to entertain on rainy days. There were unique pictures hanging on the wall. It was all so much fun!

For clean up, each cabin has a pretty outdoor shower with hot and cold water that you can use May – October. We tried ours out the next morning and even though it was a very chilly fall morning, it was fun and got us clean! Each cabin a also has a private outhouse situated not too close and not too far away to be convenient but to keep any smell away from where you are staying. Even the outhouses are decorated with plaques and pictures and pretty twinkling lights!

Our cabin also had a screened porch with a porch swing and picnic table, and a nice private yard with a fire circle and outdoor seating. We only stayed one night but we had a great time. The cabin was clean and entertaining. We definitely plan on going back again.

All bedding was provided. The cabins have electric lighting, refrigerators, propane stoves, and the central heating was more than adequate. They do ask that you leave the cabins as clean as you find them and that you remove your sheets and put them on top of the bed for laundering. I can unconditionally recommend Bombard Rustic Cabins to those looking for an inexpensive place to stay in the Adirondacks.
